Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
My teaser this week comes from:
The Vespertine by Jenny Han
Release Date: March 7th, 2011
Small blurb from Goodreads.com: It’s the summer of 1889, and Amelia van den Broek is new to Baltimore and eager to take in all the pleasures the city has to offer. But her gaiety is interrupted by disturbing, dreamlike visions she has only at sunset—visions that offer glimpses of the future. Soon, friends and strangers alike call on Amelia to hear her prophecies. However, a forbidden romance with Nathaniel, an artist, threatens the new life Amelia is building in Baltimore. This enigmatic young man is keeping secrets of his own—still, Amelia finds herself irrepressibly drawn to him. When one of her darkest visions comes to pass, Amelia’s world is thrown into chaos. And those around her begin to wonder if she’s not the seer of dark portents, but the cause.
Teaser from page 82: "Newly pinned to the ground, I stilled. I believed, very much in that moment, that he had somehow slipped from the bonds of his skin to find me ethereally."
and teaser from page 108: "Nathanial flashed his hand at me, three fingers tipped with silver points. The motion distracted me, the way it captured light or the graceful way his fingers curled. Or maybe it was just that they were his fingers. I forgot myself for a moment gazing at them."
I don't normally include two tease pages, but the poetic quality of this author's writing is so beautiful that I thought deserved a couple examples. Look for the review on this book in a few days.
What are your teasers for this week?
