Flawless by Lara Chapman
Release Date: May 10, 2011

Sarah Burke is just about perfect. She's got killer blue eyes, gorgeous blond hair, and impeccable grades. There's just one tiny-all right, enormous-flaw: her nose. But even that's not so bad. Sarah's got the best best friend and big goals for print journalism fame.  On the first day of senior year, Rock Conway walks into her journalism class and, well, rocks her world. Problem is, her best friend, Kristen, falls for him too. And when Rock and Kristen stand together, it's like Barbie and Ken come to life. So when Kristen begs Sarah to help her nab Rock, Sarah does the only thing a best friend can do-she agrees. For someone so smart, what was she thinking?  This hip retelling of Cyrano de Bergerac is filled with hilariously misguided matchmaking, sweet romance, and a gentle reminder that we should all embrace our flaws. -

I've always been a fan of Cyrano de Bergerac, and all re-tellings of the story I've ever read or seen.  Roxanne was one of my favorite movies and Steve Martin brought such a flare to it.  I think it's difficult to re-tell such a well-loved and well-known story without disappointing readers, but Lara Chapman did a phenomenal job.

Sarah does have a flaw, in the eyes of the world, and she is conscious of it.  She does have a little bit of struggle with the feeling of not being good enough, but she's not whiny about it, which I liked.  She was still a strong character.  Her friend Kristen, on the other hand, I wanted to strangle.  She came off as so selfish to me, and I wanted to grab her and say, "how can you not see how much your friend likes this guy too!?"  But I can see how she would be oblivious.

Rock was so worth all the hype.  What a sensitive, caring, all around awesome guy.  I fell a bit in love with him too.

I think Chapman did an excellent job retelling a story while still bringing such an original spin on it, that at times I forgot it was a retelling.  I enjoyed this book so much, and it was well worth my money.  I look forward to more of this author's work!
