Monday's Month In Retrospect

Monday's Month In Retrospect is a week late this time, as the first Monday of July was the 4th and I was otherwise occupied at that time.  But it's now that time of the month again to take a look back at the previous month and see what I considered the Best Ofs for what I read in June 2011. Remember, these are my best ofs on books I read last month, regardless of release date.

Best Book I read last month:

Here Lies Bridget by Paige Harbison
Release Date: Been out.
Why it was my favorite: I typically don't pick a contemporary like this for my favorite book, but this was just so well-written that I had to.  The main character was someone you absolutely hated, but then she ended up redeeming herself in the end.  It was remarkable.
Reviewed: Yes. See review here.

Best Heroine:
Ari from Darkness Becomes Her by Kelly Keaton
Why she's my favorite:  Strong, resourceful.  A real fighter!  And her history was surprising and such a unique new aspect of Greek mythology.

Best Hero:
Four from Divergent by Veronica Roth
Why he's my favorite:  This guy was so quietly sexy that you just had to love him.

Best Villain:
Bridget from Here Lies Bridget by Paige Harbison
What made them a great villain: An absolutely little monster girl.  But you have to like her.

Best Cover:

Why it's my favorite: This is a super cool cover.  I love the eye of fire hovering over the city.  It's just a neat element that kind of depicts divergence.

Come on and join me! Share your Best Ofs for June!

  1. Well my to-be-read list just grew. :)

I focused in June on getting all of the Blue Blood series read (I had gotten them all collected finally), so I would have to say that was my favorite part. I reviewed them as a series at

New follower. I love the blog. :)

  2. Hi Shanan! I went and followed you too. I love your review format! Very neat.

I have completedly finished Blue Bloods yet. I have the latest one left to do. But I've loved what I've read so far!

  3. I still need to read Divergent. It keeps getting pushed back on my list of books.
Thanks for stopping by my blog. To answer your questions, I have so far only read the first book in the Lords of the Underwold series but I bought the entire series from Ebay so I am hoping that the rest of the series is as good as the first. Otherwise I will have a lot of unread books on my hands.
I have only read Warrior Rising from P.C Casts Goddess series. I read it before we moved and the new base we live at now doesn't carry the series. I have however read all of the Partholon series. Sorry for the long comment but I wanted to respond to your questions :) Oh and to let you know that I am also a new follower of yours.

  4. Four....sigh. I completely agree with you on that one! Divergent was great!
Found you on Book Blogs, and now I'm following!

  5. Kristin, you definitely have to try her other Goddess books. They're great.

Courtney, I love Four!! Sigh, sigh!!
