Ashlyn: A lonely society princess living in New York City.  Daddy hired you to be my bodyguard.  Colin: Childhood enemy, now her protector.  Daddy thought I’d be safe. He thought I’d never fall in love. He thought he could keep me forever.  Charles: obsessed with keeping her safe, keeping her his, he hires the one person he knows she could never fall in love with: Colin. -

Jennifer Laurens has always been a favorite of mine.  She has a knack for creating characters that you care about, and creating romance between them that is sweet, sexy, and builds perfectly over time.  This book was no exception.

Ashlyn is in a situation that would be considered inconvenient for anybody, but for a teenager, it is unbearable.  She has no freedom, can't go out without a bodyguard, and even when she can go out, it's only to very limited places.  Now if this was imposed on her due to punishment for bad behavior it would be easier to understand, but Ashlyn hasn't done anything wrong.  She's in this predicament through no fault of her own, and it is only her parents unrational fear that creates this situation.  At first, she is more accepting of this, out of habit more than anything else.  But when Colin is placed as her guardian, things begin to change.

Let me say right now, that I fell in love with Colin, just as Ashlyn did.  He is kind, gallant, dutiful, and sexy too!  What's not to like?  Again, it's not an ideal situation because Colin is the one there who is charged with restricting her movements, even if he doesn't actually agree with the task.  It would be easy for her to dislike him because of this, but she doesn't.  Their growing relationship was sweet, sexy, and kept me engrossed.

One of the things I loved about this book was Ashlyn's music.  It was used so perfectly as a way for her to let her feelings out, and Colin was smart enough to see that.  Very intuitive.

This is one of the types of books I enjoy the most because the central focus was all about the people, the romance, and reconciliation.  Don't get me wrong, I love paranormals, and books that have other elements, but when it all comes down to it, all of that is just a framework for what's happening with the characters themselves.  So books that focus on the characters are entertaining and keep me engrossed.  Jennifer Laurens really knows how to do that well, and it's why I always enjoy her books so much.  This was a little bit different than some of her previous works, but it was a nice surprise.  Another great book by a great author.
