Someone's been a very bad zombie.  Kate Grable is horrified to find out that the football coach has given the team steroids. Worse yet, the steroids are having an unexpected effect, turning hot gridiron hunks into mindless flesh-eating zombies. No one is safe--not her cute crush Aaron, not her dorky brother, Jonah . . . not even Kate! She's got to find an antidote--before her entire high school ends up eating each other. So Kate, her best girlfriend, Rocky, and Aaron stage a frantic battle to save their town. . . and stay hormonally human. -

I've read a lot of dark and serious books lately, albeit good ones.  So reading a nice, funny and light-hearted contemporary was kind of nice, especially since it had a supernatural twist.

The story does play on the whole geek girl crushing on a quarterback storyline, but for some reason, where it's cliche in other books, it was perfect in this one.  I loved Kate so much!!  She had such a quirky sense of humor and manner of speaking that had me howling now and then.  Just the way she would phrase things in this witty, dry way that reminded me of Leslie Nielson.... I loved it.  She was smart, and had this whole issue figured out almost immediately.  But it was believeable because of her scientific mind.

Aaron was an adorable jock guy who reminded me of a big teddy bear.  At the same time, you could tell he had some intelligence of his own, as he admired Kate for hers.  The two of them were very cute.

The zombie part of the story was inventive, and not something I see very often, at least not like it was done in this book.  Carrie Harris brought a unique flavor to it that made it really enjoyable and interesting, with some suspense thrown in for good measure.

On the whole, this was a very satisfying read that I pretty much devoured in one sitting.  I think that's the best praise possible.
