Crossed by Ally Condie
Release Date: November 1, 2011
Publisher: Dutton Juvenile

In search of a future that may not exist and faced with the decision of who to share it with, Cassia journeys to the Outer Provinces in pursuit of Ky - taken by the Society to his certain death - only to find that he has escaped, leaving a series of clues in his wake.  Cassia's quest leads her to question much of what she holds dear, even as she finds glimmers of a different life across the border. But as Cassia nears resolve and certainty about her future with Ky, an invitation for rebellion, an unexpected betrayal, and a surprise visit from Xander - who may hold the key to the uprising and, still, to Cassia's heart - change the game once again. Nothing is as expected on the edge of Society, where crosses and double crosses make the path more twisted than ever.  - Goodreads.com

I've been waiting, what seems, for so long for this book to come out.  I loved, loved, loved Matched when I read it, and was dying to read the sequel from the moment I finished the first one.  The wait has been agonizingly slow.  Sometimes a much anticipated sequel comes out and it fails to live up to your expectations. Not so with Crossed!

I knew that this one was going to be somewhat different than the first because there was going to be a change in scenery.  Cassia and the other characters weren't going to be located in the burrough anymore, but were going to be off in strange territories in the Outer Provinces.  This could have changed the magic of the story, but it didn't.

Cassia has one goal in mind, to find Ky.  The bravery she shows to slip aboard a ship that will remove her from what she's always known and send her out to a place she's never been, a complete unknown, was amazing. I loved to see this character grow and change even more.  The journey she's made from the beginning of Matched to this point in Crossed is amazing.  She started out being so enclosed, so trapped in her own head and within the society.  The cover of this book was a perfect, physical representation of what happens to Cassia on this journey, her breaking out of her bubble.

Ky was just as phenomenal of a character to me as he was in Matched.  His quiet bravery, dignity and spirit are so endearing.  These two are magical together.  I found it very realistic that the two of them didn't have a perfect relationship, that there were issues that they had to overcome with each.  It made their journey together that much more realistic and valuable.

On the horizon is Xander.  I can't wait to see what happens with this character.  I have a feeling he's about to play a major role, and that things between Xander, Cassia and Ky are about to get very shaken up.

Aside from the awesomeness of the story and its characters, overlaying all that was Ally Condie's beautiful language.  She has a gorgeous writers voice.  There are passages in her writing that are simply poetic.  I am literally on the edge of my seat and already in agony waiting for the third book!!
