She should not exist.  He should not love her.  Claire Brennan has been attending Emerson Academy for two years now (the longest she and her mom have remained anywhere) and she's desperate to stay put for the rest of high school. So there's no way she's going to tell her mom about the psychic visions she's been having or the creepy warnings that she's in danger.  Alec MacKenzie is fed up with his duties to watch and, when necessary, eliminate the descendants of his angelic forefathers. He chose Emerson as the ideal hiding place where he could be normal for once. He hadn't factored Claire into his plans. . . . Their love is forbidden, going against everything Alec has been taught to believe. But when the reason behind Claire's unusual powers is revealed and the threat to her life becomes clear, how far will Alec go to protect her?  - Goodreads.com

From the very beginning, I thought I had Alec pegged.  He would be the mysterious, dark, sexy guy that sweeps into Claire's life.  Yes on some of those... but he was a lot more than that.  He was also sweet and funny, and not what he seemed.  Great characterization here.  The authors did a great job giving him some depth beyond that stereotype which made him that much more likeable.

Claire is struggling with changes, both internally, and at school.  A guy she thought she'd always liked, and Alec whom she's not sure she likes from the moment she meets him.  This made it so much more unique than some of the other stories I've read lately that have that insta-love.

Claire has no idea who and what she is, and neither does Alec until it's almost too late.  Excellent characterization, danger level, and suspense in this story.  It sweeps you right along with some great pacing and some twists and turns you aren't expecting.

The authors did a great job with this story, and the writing was tight, fast paced, and really engaging.  An excellent story.  I am definitely looking forward to the next one!!
