Release Date: September 25, 2012
Publisher: Harlequin Teen

She won’t rest until she’s sent every walking corpse back to its grave. Forever.  Had anyone told Alice Bell that her entire life would change course between one heartbeat and the next, she would have laughed. From blissful to tragic, innocent to ruined? Please. But that’s all it took. One heartbeat. A blink, a breath, a second, and everything she knew and loved was gone.  Her father was right. The monsters are real….  To avenge her family, Ali must learn to fight the undead. To survive, she must learn to trust the baddest of the bad boys, Cole Holland. But Cole has secrets of his own, and if Ali isn’t careful, those secrets might just prove to be more dangerous than the zombies….  I wish I could go back and do a thousand things differently.  I'd tell my sister no.  I'd never beg my mother to talk to my dad.  I'd zip my lips and  swallow those hateful words.  Or, barring all of that, I'd hug my sister, my mom and my dad one last time.  I'd tell them I love them.  I wish... Yeah, I wish.  - Goodreads.com

This book was ah-mazing!!!  It's been out for a while and I actually had no intention of buying it because I just didn't think I would like it.  Wow, what a mistake that would have been.  I was trolling someone's Top Ten Tuesday post and saw that they had this book on their list.  But it wasn't that which caused me to get it, as I've seen the book mentioned on numerous blogs and in numerous reviews.  But this blog mentioned that the book had a really good bad boy character in it, and yes, as you know, I'm a sucker for a well-crafted bad boy.  So of course, that's all it took to make me pick this book up, and I am so glad that I did.

Yes, I've read zombie books before, but they were nothing like this.  This was unique, different, and so awesome that I just couldn't put it down until it was over.  First off, these aren't your typical zombies.  These are unique, and more spiritual in nature, which I found to be so interesting.  The way Alice treats her parents at the start of the book because they believe in these zombies was so sad becasue they end up being too right, and Alice's family suffers for her lack of belief.  So emotional!

Cole Holland... what a character.  He definitely lived up to what I'd read on that Top Ten Tuesday post.  I absolutely loved this guy.  He was, indeed, the perfect bad boy.  He's tough, dangerous, and quite a lot of sexy, and he's exactly what Alice needs at just the right time.  Their interactions together were filled with tension, and the growing romance was perfect.

I loved watching Alice grow into her heritage, and grow into her skills and power.  This was yet another really unique aspect to the story.  I found myself flipping through the pages of this book so quickly, and the next thing I knew, I looked up and was done with the book in one sitting.  Just the type of book I love.  The kind you completely lose yourself in, where the passage of time is nonexistent.

This was such an inventive story with great characters, the perfect amount of danger and intrigue, and a great romance.  What else can you ask for?  Highly recommend it!!

If you liked this book, be watching for the next installment coming in 2013.
