One of the things I really loved about Shelley's Settling series is the characters. After reading each book now, the thing that really stuck with me was the characterization and the way these characters interact with each other. Each one of them has their own personality, their own quirks, and their dialogue is so natural. It really makes them seem real to me.... so kudos to Shelley for some great characterization, for having created some very sympathetic and memorable characters.
With that in mind, I have to say that I'm pleased by how Clio is able to resolve issues with her friends. It was difficult to see this group on the outs with each other, and I was so happy when resolution came, and Clio began to reconcile with her friends. The strength of these books has been these characters and the fact that they're working together. So this was gratifying to see.
Without giving anything else away, I am pleased with how Shelley ended this series. The ending was solid, and I felt she tied things up well. If I had any complaints it all, it might be that I wish there had been a bit more action throughout the books leading up to the big events. But other than that, the books had great pacing and held my interest. I'll be interested to see what Shelley comes up with next.
