Wicked Kiss by Michelle Rowen
Release Date: February 26, 2013
Publisher: Harlequin Teen

MY KISS CAN KILL. I used to be ordinary Samantha Day, but that's changed. Now, after one dark kiss from a dangerous boy, I can steal someone's soul...or their life. If I give in to the constant hunger inside me, I hurt anyone I kiss. If I don't...I hurt myself. Bishop is the one whose kiss I crave most, but if I kiss him, I'll kill him. Then there's another boy, one I can't hurt. One whose kiss seems to miraculously quell my hunger. They're both part of a team of angels and demons that's joined forces in my city to fight a mysterious rising darkness, an evil that threatens everyone I know and love. I just wonder if I'll be able to help Bishop-or if I'm just another part of the darkness he's sworn to destroy.... Nightwatchers.  When angels and demons must work together, something beyond evil is rising...  - Goodreads.com

The second installment to the Nightwatchers series has amped up the story and the suspense!  This was a great sequel to the first book, and everything I loved about the first book is present and even better!

The characters in this story are amazing.  I love the dynamic between the group, all the angels, the demons in the group even, and Samantha.  Their interactions together are some of my favorites parts to the book.  We get to see new depths to these characters also, as we didn't have a lot of time to really get to know some of them in the first book.  The space constraints didn't really allow for deep exploration of all the characters, since it is a big cast... so this book did seem to take a bit more time to develop them and allow the reader to really know them.

Relationships are definitely tested, boundaries crossed, and some relationships you thought were set in stone are revisited and redefined.  There are a couple twists relating to the characters that were definitely unexpected and changed a lot.  Three I can think of, in fact, and they were all surprising, but very welcome! It should makes things even more interesting for the third book.

I loved watching Samantha move toward her destiny and learn the truth around what she really is.  She has a surprising streak of nobility in her that really surprised and amazed me, and it added an emotional depth to her actions that kind of broke my heart a little bit.

Michelle Rowen has crafted a really intriguing world here, and I loved her combination of writing style with suspenseful, with some humor, and moments of deep emotion.  I loved the book, and can't wait for the third installment.
