This is one of my favorite series lately, so I was really excited to get a chance to read a quick novella in between the main books. Nick has been an intriguing character to me in this series, so it was nice to get to know him a bit more.
Nick's always been kind of quiet and down to earth, so he's been a favorite for me. He seems like the polar opposite to his brother Gabriel, who always seems to live his life on the outside of his skin. So Nick being a bit more calm and reserved is interesting. Let's just say that this novella allows you to get to know him a bit more, and I was really kind of surprised by what I find out in this novella.
Who knew that Nick might be struggling with sexual identity? I think this is a good set up for Nick's book, sort of paving the way for what is probably going to happen when Nick gets his own book. I felt, however, that with such a surprising element to be revealed about Nick, that the author perhaps could have dropped a few small hints in prior books so that the reader isn't quite so shocked when reading this novella. As it was, I was floored because there had never been any hints leading up to this.
Nice visit into the Elemental world. I'm looking forward to the next full featured book!
