Apollyon by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Apollyon by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Release Date: April 4, 2013
Publisher: Spencer Hill Press

Fate isn’t something to mess with… and now, neither is Alex.  Alex has always feared two things: losing herself in the Awakening and being placed on the Elixir. But love has always been stronger than Fate, and Aiden St. Delphi is willing to make war on the gods—and Alex herself—to bring her back.  The gods have killed thousands and could destroy entire cities in their quest to stop Seth from taking Alex’s power and becoming the all-powerful God Killer. But breaking Alex’s connection to Seth isn’t the only problem. There are a few pesky little loopholes in the whole “an Apollyon can’t be killed” theory, and the only person who might know how to stop the destruction has been dead for centuries.  Finding their way past the barriers that guard the Underworld, searching for one soul among countless millions, and then somehow returning will be hard enough. Alex might be able to keep Seth from becoming the God Killer… or she might become the God Killer herself.  - Goodreads.com

OMG!!  This series just keeps getting better and better.  I have a major fangirl writer crush on Jennifer L. Armentrout.  She is the best!!  Her writing is so engaging, the story is engrossing, and I simply can't put it down.  The series just keeps getting better and better with each installment to the point that I am now at a fever pitch waiting for the last book.  Amazing.

I love, love, love Alex as a character.  She is so tough and badass, which makes for some seriously exciting scenes watching her fight and whip butt.  But apart from that, I love how human she is, how she can have such deep emotions and care so deeply for those around her.  She's courageous and self-sacrificing, and I adore her snarky personality.  This is just a really well-developed character that is one of my favorites of any series I've read.

Then there's Aiden.  Okay, I admit.  I've been a bit of a book ho while reading this series.  In the first two books, I loved Aiden and couldn't imagine Alex being with anyone else.  Then in the third book, suddenly I switched to Seth, because darnit, he was just awesome too... sexy, sweet, mysterious, and a little dangerous.  It was the lure of the bad boy, I think.  I was convinced that my allegiance had totally switched to him.  Now, here we are with Apollyon and I'm fickle again!  I love Aiden!!  This guy is steadfast, loving, badass, and sexy too.  I'm back on Team Aiden again and I didn't expect it at all.  These two have great chemistry, just as Alex and Seth did.  I think Armentrout could make any pair of characters have chemistry, no matter what because she's just that good!

The action in this book was heart-stopping and amazing.  Alex comes up against an incredibly tough enemy in this book.  I was absolutely floored by some of the revelations that came out in this book.  The suspense was so high that I flew through this book and don't know if I even breathed through the entire thing.

I'm left with more questions that I can't wait to find the answers to.  Will Seth redeem himself? What does the reader not yet know about Alex?  It is too long to wait for the next book, Sentinel, but I know that when it comes out, the author will have created a slam-bang finish that I can't wait to read.  Much love to this series and this book!!
