The Human by Keary Taylor

The Human by Keary Taylor
Release Date: June 18, 2013

The city of New Eden is cleared, but it won’t stay that way forever. The Bane continue to advance in horrific ways that will wipe humanity from the face of the Earth. A storm is coming, one none of them could have dared imagine.   When a group of outsiders come to the city, everyone is on edge. They have too many questions and not enough answers about where they are from or what they want. Just because they are human doesn’t mean they can be trusted.  Eve made a choice–one that could have deadly repercussions. Desperate hearts bring about desperate actions. Now she must make another decision as her world continues to crumble: come to terms with who she really is, or risk her sanity. She thought she had unlocked all the secrets from her past, but there are truths still buried that leave her questioning what is real and what is not.  -

First and foremost, thank you to the author for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.  And honestly, this book is awesome!!  I'm so glad I found this series, because it is quickly becoming on of my favorites of 2013.  It is well-written, suspenseful, and exciting.

Eve is an amazing character.  You would think that someone who has been sort of adjusted to not feel emotions would be boring to read about, but not so.  She is learning to feel them, working through how overwhelming they can be, and evolving into a new person.  What I love about her is her nobility.  She cares so much for those she protects, and will do anything to make and keep them safe.  Her bravery and courage, especially in the face of new emotions, is extraordinary, and just makes you love her all the more.

I love Eve's relationship with Avian.  This guy cares so much about her, that you can't help but love him.  Plus, there's that hint of vulnerability, an insecurity of her affection, that makes him so real and endearing.  Although the relationship and romance are not the center piece of the story, I do believe the relationship between Eve and Avian reached a new level in this story.

As far as the story goes, this was an excellent continuation of the series.  Everything I loved about the first book is present in The Human.  There were moments of heart-stopping suspense in this story that left me gasping and on the edge of my seat.  The mystery surrounding Eve is not completed.  There are new revelations that are shocking and unexpected, and which keep the overall story fast-paced and completely engrossing.  And talk about a cliffhanger!  I'm now dying for the next installment.

Keary Taylor has created an amazing and unique story here with endearing characters, suspense and excitement.  The writing was incredibly fast-paced, and the setting rich in detail.  I love this series!!
