Monday's Month In Retrospect for March 2015

Monday's Month in Retrospect is a monthly meme hosted by The Tale Temptress to look back at your favorites, your "MVPs", or "Best Ofs" from what you read the previous month.  To participate:

  • Pick your "Best Ofs" from the specified categories below
  • Post them in a MMiR (Monday's Month in Retrospect post on your blog (include why each was your favorite)
  • Add your link to the list at the end of this post.

Additional rules:  You can use pictures to illustrate your Best Of picks, your idea of what a character looks like, etc...  Also, you can use my simple banner above, or your own, just as long as you link back.  You can even combine this with a regular "month/week in review" post that you already do. Just make sure to link back so we can all see what everyone thought was the Best.  The Best Of categories are:

  • Best Book
  • Best Hero
  • Best Heroine
  • Best Villain
  • Best Quote, if you have one
  • Best Cover

So here is my Monday's Month In Retrospect for what I read in March 2015:

Title: Count On Me by Melyssa Winchester
Why It Was My Favorite:  Bullying of a slightly autistic teenage girl, until the leader of the bullies falls for her.  Wow, what's not to love?  It was deep, gorgeously written, and a beautiful romance.
Reviewed?   Yes.  See review here.

Character: Caleb from Toxic Bad Boy by April Brookshire
Why He Was My Favorite:  OMG... this hero had it all.  He was a sexy bad boy, but when he falls, he falls hard and never gives up on what and who he wants.  Wow!

Character: Eve from The Eve by Keary Taylor
Why She Was My Favorite: This character remained steadfast and self-sacrificing... but not in a overly martyrish, feel-sorry-for-myself type way, but in a my-people-need-help-so-I'm-gonna-do-this-even-if-it-kills-me way.  She was badass but endearing.

Character/Entity: Sang's mom in Academy: Introductions by C.L. Stone
Why This Villain Was My Favorite: This woman was an absolute monster who inflicted some Sybil-like punishments on her daughter.  I wanted to reach through the book pages and strangle the heck out of her!

Quote from: Gotta give another one to Caleb from Toxic Bad Boy by April Brookshire
Quote: "Don't listen to your head, listen to your heart.  Are you my girl?"
Why It's My Favorite: It personifies Caleb perfectly.

Book Cover: The Deep End of the Sea by Heather Lyons
Why It's My Favorite:  I may be reading too much into it, but if you know the original myth of Medusa, she was raped by Poseidon, the God of the Sea, and she was a complete innocent at the time. This book cover just captures that perfectly because she's apparently nude (which in this case just says innocence to me), and she's in water but curled over in a protective, hurtful way.  Again, I may be putting a lot more on it than was intended, but I think the cover speaks to the book's subject matter perfectly.  Plus, I love blue covers!
