Belong to Me by Laura Howard
Release Date: March 31, 2015
Genre: Mature Young Adult
Kate and Noah thought they had the kind of love that could last through anything. Until their world crumbles out from beneath them.
After months of separation, the tragic death of Jack, Kate's twin and Noah's best friend, throws them back together. As they try to heal from the horrific loss, will they be able to overcome old wounds or are they destined to live separately forever?
I can't imagine what it must be like to lose a twin. For Kate, her twin brother Jack was more than just a twin brother. They lived together at college, along with their friend, Noah. Their closeness made his loss even more difficult for her. At the time the three of them lived together, Noah and Kate were an item until something inexplicably drove them apart. Now, at Jack's death, Kate is returning from London after being gone for six months.
Seeing Noah again was something she expected but dreaded at the same time. It was hard for her to see him again, as I can only imagine. The author did a good job with characterization of the main characters, and a great job conveying the sadness of the family and the void in their hearts and lives that is left by Jack's passing.
I would have liked to have seen more development of the romance. As it is, I felt that I came into the middle of a romance in progress that picked up where it left off. I was able to appreciate, however, that the two main characters banded together over their mutual grief.
The book was fast-paced and short... so it was a very quick read. The author did a great job with the space in giving the reader an emotional read filled with ups and downs.
About the Author
Laura Howard lives in New Hampshire with her husband and four children. Her obsession with books began at the age of 6 when she got her first library card. Nancy Drew, Sweet Valley High and other girly novels were routinely devoured in single sittings. Books took a backseat to diapers when she had her first child. It wasn’t until the release of a little novel called Twilight, 8 years later, that she rediscovered her love of fiction. Soon after, her own characters began to make themselves known. The Forgotten Ones is her first published novel.
