Although I love all genres of fiction, I'm not so much a John Grisham-y kind of gal. I love romance, fantasy, and Young/New Adult being at the top of the list.
How did this happen? Well, I started reading them about the time the first Twilight movie came out. I loved that series so much I thought, "hey, why not see if there are other YA books I like just as well as these?" Guess what? There were!
I've found the YA/NA genre to be a virtual sea of excellent writing, wonderful authors and unique storylines that I never expected. I feel as if YA ignores the "rules" somewhat, and I admire that. The books, while primarily being about young protagonists, offers something to all age groups. A common misconception a lot of adults may have about teen books is that they are somehow "dumbed down" or simplified due to the fact they are for a younger audience. Sorry, anyone who has ever had a teenage kid (of which I have two) can tell you there's nothing dumb about a teenager. They're slicker than snot and sharp as a tack. Enough cliches for you?
